Fraud & Security

Stay one step ahead of fraud.

Scams are getting harder to spot — but Pacific Spruce will never ask for your full password, security questions or PIN over phone, email or text. If something feels off, pause and call us.

What we’ll never do

Pacific Spruce will never…

Keep this list in mind. If anyone reaches out claiming to be from Pacific Spruce and asks for any of the following, end the call or delete the message and phone us directly.

  • Ask for your full password or PIN. Ever. Not by phone, text, email or chat.
  • Ask you to read out a 2FA code. That one-time code is the attacker’s goal — protect it like a password.
  • Pressure you into a wire or gift-card transfer. Urgency is a fraudster’s favorite tool.
  • Email a link to “verify” your account. Always type pacificsprucefcu.com into your browser yourself.

Spot the scam

Common red flags.

Most fraud attempts follow a small set of patterns. If you see any of these, stop:

  • “Act now or your account will be closed.” We don’t work on that kind of deadline.
  • A link that looks almost right. Hover over it — if the domain isn’t pacificsprucefcu.com, it isn’t us.
  • A caller who already knows a lot about you. Data leaks happen; the caller still has to earn trust.
  • Unsolicited tech-support. No one from “Microsoft” or “Apple” needs remote access to your device.
  • Payment requested in gift cards. Gift cards are not money. Legitimate institutions do not take them.

Protect yourself

Good habits that keep fraud out.

  • Use biometric sign-in. Face ID or Touch ID on your phone adds a layer that’s much harder to steal.
  • Strong, unique passwords. Use a password manager. Never reuse a bank password elsewhere.
  • Turn on account alerts. Transaction alerts catch unauthorized activity within minutes.
  • Freeze cards you’re not using. Inside online banking, you can freeze and unfreeze each card with one tap.

If it already happened

Think you’ve been scammed?

Act fast. Every minute matters — but most losses can still be recovered if you report them quickly.

  • Call us immediately. (541) 336-2321 during business hours, or the 24/7 card line at (800) 523-9078.
  • Freeze your debit card. Open online banking and toggle the card off, or ask us to block it.
  • Change passwords on any accounts that may have been exposed — email first, then financial accounts.
  • File a report. The FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov and the local police — a report helps recovery.
